Beloved Heirlooms
Likely a 19th or early 20th century pastiche of a Hall Settle from an earlier model. Features a high paneled back with moulded wainscot fielded with hand carved head figures of ranking officials surrounded by carved strap work of leaves, ribbon work, and rosettes. Seat has leather inserts and is faced with an apron fielded with scrolled leaves, fruit pods, highlighted by a grotesque mask. The seat rests atop front cabriole legs with figural grotesque masks at the knees and dutch grooved feet.
This Settle belonged to a scientist from Westchester who was an avid collector of antiques. It was purchased in Europe in the 20th century and was shipped to the United States. It is believed to be from from Spain or Italy.
